Republicans in the Idaho House of Representatives have shuffled committee chairman positions after a shakeup in chamber leadership over the past week.

Rep. David Cannon, R-Blackfoot

Rep. David Cannon of Blackfoot has been promoted to chairman of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee. Rep. Jeff Ehlers of Meridian was named the new vice chair.

Ehlers will no longer serve as vice chair of the House Business Committee. Rep. Jaron Crane of Nampa will now fill that seat.

In addition, Rep. Judy Boyle of Midvale was moved to the tax committee from the House Education Committee. She stopped attending that committee in protest last year following a vote to kill one of the library bills, Idaho Education News reported.

The moves come after the House Republican caucus on Monday elected Rep. Jason Monks of Meridian as their new Majority Leader. He had continued serving as the chair of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee through its meeting on Wednesday morning.

The new committee assignments were announced at the end of the House floor session on Wednesday. House committee assignments and chairmanships are assigned by Speaker Mike Moyle of Star.
