The Idaho Legislature reconvened for a special session to consider the biggest tax cuts and education investments in Idaho history, and while it passed overwhelmingly, not everyone was on board.
$500 million in tax rebates, $150 million in ongoing tax cuts, and more than $400 million in ongoing education spending. It took just ten hours Thursday to pass a wide-ranging bill with a historic price tag, and while most lawmakers voted yes, we heard a lot of misgivings about the bill and the process.
Reps. Julie Yamamoto (R-Caldwell), Gayann DeMordaunt (R-Eagle), Sally Toone (D-Gooding) and Sen. Steven Thayn (R-Emmett) joined Melissa Davlin in the studio Friday for a special episode of Idaho Reports to share their takes on the policy, politics and process of the special legislative session.
What have several consecutive years of historic education investments gotten the state?
Kevin Richert of Idaho Education News joined the show to discuss what we know and don’t know about the education funding in the new law.
The regular season of Idaho Reports begins October 7th on Idaho Public Television.
